Transgender. Which relates to a person who is uncomfortable with or does not prefer the gender they were assigned at birth by their doctor, family and society (usually being a girl or boy). Often this person ends up choosing to live and express a gender identity that is comfortable for them. Transsexual is a dated term for this, but some trans people still identify to it; cisgender people should avoid using it unless it’s a trans person’s chosen word for their experience. Transmasculine or transmasc refers to trans people who present in a more masculine way, whether their gender is nonbinary or not. Transfeminine or transfem means the same for people who present in a more feminine way.
