HIV. HIV (Human Immunodeficiency Virus) is the virus which, untreated, can cause AIDS (Acquired ImmunoDeficiency Syndrome). A person who’s infected with the virus will be for their entire life. We say this person is seropositive, or HIV-positive (you can be seropositive to different kinds of viruses). Someone who isn’t infected with HIV is seronegative or HIV-negative.
