PrEP (pre-exposure prophylaxis). These are meds you can take to protect yourself from HIV, every day or on occasion. In the latter case, you take PrEP a few hours before you get in bed with someone, and on the two days that follow. Universal healthcare coverage in many countries pays for PrEP for men who have sex with men, and many private insurers cover it too. PrEP doesn’t protect you from other sexually transmitted infections besides HIV.
