In society, there are people, groups, organizations and institutions that have power over other people and groups with less power. There are all sorts of ways in which this power used; some are subtle, like people’s attitudes, and some are obvious, like criminal laws and cops. When that power is about something like race, gender, sexuality, religion, or wealth and poverty, the ways that power is used become a system. What makes this system work is called power structures.
